As you know it is my passion to help women to feel happier and healthier. I believe the key to a happier and healthier life is Self-Care and Self-Love.

Many of us actually lose ourselves in caring for others with our lives being so busy and there is so much to do. I hear this every day. 

Women often experience overwhelm before they realize it is crucial to their health and their happiness that they care for themselves. Overwhelm can show up as despair, anxiety, depression, or it can manifest as aches and pains, discomfort, imbalances, and dis-ease in our physical bodies and our emotional beings. 

Some women experience mood swings, weight loss or gain, irritable bowel syndrome, while others simply feel unwell or worry about their own health.

P.S. I hear women of all ages tell me they don’t have to be concerned about hormone health. I find this an interesting statement.  Women at all ages and stages need hormones.

Why Female Viagra Is Not The Right Solution for Women

When I heard the announcement that the FDA has approved a drug that has been coined the ‘Female Viagra’, my ears perked up.

I found myself wondering what this drug could possibly be and what effect was it going to have on the many women who are already suffering from emotional and physical imbalances.

What I found was that Flibanserin is yet another antidepressant.

It was never intended to be considered a female Viagra and it bears no similarities to Viagra.

Viagra is used to open up the arteries to allow better blood flow and erection in the penis. It is a drug that helps the body mechanics work more efficiently, so to speak. For the man using Viagra, he already has the desire, yet needs help in the function area.

The fact that Flibanserin is an antidepressant tells us the belief is that women need to relax to get the urge or desire for sex.

Antidepressants seem to be a medical solution for many symptoms women experience today.

I would estimate that 90% of the women who come to see me are using or have used antidepressants in the past. The majority of these women are not thrilled about using these mind altering drugs for long term, as they understand they are a quick fix or bandage, they are not a cure.

Flibanserin can have serious side-effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, fatigue, insomnia and dry mouth, and should never be used when drinking alcohol.

I believe there is a time for drugs and there is a time when we need to step up and take charge of our own health, both mental and physical.

Antidepressants are not the conclusive answer to so many issues. I believe it is time to look further for the real answers.

Why are women experiencing so many undiagnosed problems such as low libido? Women are stressed and overwhelmed.

The women of today have taken on too many responsibilities, too many ‘hats’ and do not allow themselves time to process their own emotional burdens and baggage.

Many women take on the responsibility as a caretaker at an early age. Couple this sense of nurturing with our inability to resolve our own childhood hurts and limiting beliefs, many women begin to show signs of stress at a very young age.

Many teen girls experience anxiety, overwhelm and even depression.

Pressures are intense and all the emotional stress begins to affect them physically such as weight gain or loss, headaches, or stomach issues, to mention a few.

Some experience uncomfortable menstrual cycles and are put on birth-control as a coping strategy.

This is often the beginning of a series of symptoms as they enter into womanhood.

When these same young women continue to experience weight issues, PCOS, PMS, infertility, anxiety or depression and they are so often treated with antidepressants.

I believe if we could help these young women to release their emotional hurts and limiting beliefs, it would reduce their physical and emotional struggles later in life.

The root cause of many of the hormonal imbalances women experience today are found in early events and experiences that have no place in their life today.

When women do not take the time to resolve the root cause of their emotional stress, these issues lie dormant or hidden.

Women think they are ‘coping’, but in reality the emotional hurts show up as eating disorders, physical pain, relationship problems, and many hormonal imbalance symptoms such as low libido.

Is Flibanserin the cure for low libido in women?

I don’t think so, a woman’s sexuality is a complex issue and I truly believe women need to begin to care for themselves by letting go of old emotional hurts and learn how to use the mind/body approach to wellness.

Hormone balance is one of the key points to normalize libido for women and will be the best step you can take in creating a positive sexual experience.

Why Stress is Contagious and What You Can Do to Prevent it

Autumn is sneaking upon us and before we know it we will all begin new routines and schedules. Lazy summer days come to an end and we prepare for changes in weather, work and play.

And for many, this time of year brings on a sense of overwhelm.

Isn’t it interesting that as a new school year begins, we all seem to get into the spirit of starting new projects and classes or we begin to consider plans for the Fall and the Winter?

For many women all this excitement creates a lot of stress and feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and no “ME TIME”.

When I am out in the community speaking with women about creating time for themselves they agree they often put their own needs for self-care at the bottom of their priority list.

Self-abnegation: the act of putting the needs of others before your own needs.

So many women totally get this and agree it is super hard to create ‘me time’.

What happens if we ignore our need for ‘me time’?

What happens when we don’t take care of us?

Can YOU put off your own self-care for another month?  How about another year or possibly a decade?

Maybe you feel the time isn’t now… you need to wait until the kids are older, or possibly when you retire, or possibly something will  happen so you can stop and take time to breathe deeply.

I want to let you know that THIS is the ‘perfect’ time for you.

It is time to create a practice of self-care.

The perfect time for self-care is NOW!

And, what if you don’t take time for you now?

You will experience frustration and overwhelm, and you will not be living in the life you desire and deserve.

These feeling of frustration begin to affect you physically, mentally and emotionally.

Those feelings of frustration begin to affect how you interact with other people.  Your sense of overwhelm affects your relationships with those closest to you and your relationship with yourself.

Do you think your family and friends will see your smile and not notice you are in a funk or maybe even angry beneath your attempt to hide it?  Those around you can ‘feel’ your unrest.

Stress is contagious!

Think to a time when you have been with someone who is angry or upset.  You can sense it, can’t you?

Emotions are energy is motion. 

We can feel other peoples’ angst and they can feel yours.

We are especially open to ‘catch’ stress from those whom we are closest to.  You feel stress when your children or your spouse are stressed and they ‘feel’ stress from you, as well.

This all reminds me of a couple of excellent commercials on TV.  One commercial is about a child who senses her mothers’ depression and sits about appearing to be concerned and sad.

The message is how depression affects those around you.

The other commercial shows a young girl daydreaming about her parents’ argument at home, as if it was happening now, yet she is at school trying to focus on the teacher.

Both of these commercials clearly show how stress can affect those around us

When we are feeling stress our adrenal glands help us deal with the situation causing the stress by producing cortisol.  This is our bodies’ way of helping us respond with our automatic responses of fight or flight.

It is perfect when we are dealing with an emergency situation or when we are in danger.

Our ability to respond instantly to danger was crucial when humans were running from tigers, but today our stress is not usually life threatening.

Our stress is a daily occurrence.

Many people find themselves in chronic stress and they have an overdose of cortisol running through their bodies.  This excess cortisol can have negative effects on our bodies.

The healthy answer is to find a balance between activity and rest.

Self-care begins by recognizing your stress levels and making a decision to find ways to reduce and manage stress.

Share your feelings with those close to you.  Ask for help and allow your family and friends to help you.  Asking and accepting support from others is also allowing those people the wonderful gift of giving to you.

Creating a self-care routine and sticking with it is super important to help you let go of stress, frustration and overwhelm.

Join a yoga class, learn and practice meditation, mindfulness or self-hypnosis.

Find activities that bring you inner peace and joy.

Begin a gratitude journal and use it daily.  Make a list of all the things you are grateful for and add to this list every day.  Review this list when you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

How to Use Chakra Balancing to Relieve Your Stress

I have found that many, if not all, of my clients suffer from stress and this directly affects the energy within their physical bodies. They experience pain, discomfort, or illness and often feel out of control because they are unable to think clearly.

With that in mind, I would like to share with you a technique I have found very helpful to balance your internal energies.

We live in a world of chronic stress.

There is little down time, we are connected 24/7, and many of us are feeling stuck, overwhelmed and anxious. You may be experiencing this, or know someone who is.

Many of my clients can totally relate. They feel like they are on a hamster wheel and have no idea how to get off or even how to slow down.

I see this every day in my office – people are looking for ways to slow down and enjoy life.

To help them through their stress, I teach my clients how to gain control by letting go of old emotional hurts, pains or trauma. I teach them how to quickly get into a calm, present moment state of mind and how to meditate using self-hypnosis.

We discuss gratitude and setting positive intentions to begin to take back personal control over their life experience.

One very powerful technique I teach them to use daily is Chakra Balancing.

You may have heard of Chi or Universal Life Force. This is taught in Eastern medicine and philosophy. This chi or energy flows through all living things. It flows through our bodies.  We cannot see it, but we know it is there, it flows through and around us.

When we are stressed our energy flow can be affected.

You may experience shoulder or neck tension when you are stressed. You might know someone who gets stress headaches or can’t think when they are stressed.

The first thing I do is check my client’s chakras or chi as we begin to work together. 9 times out of 10 their energies are not flowing easily.

I take time right then to help them to open up the energy flow as we begin our work together. When we open our chakras and allow the energies to flow we feel grounded, emotionally stronger and happier.

You can use this Chakra Balancing technique anywhere, anytime.

The more you practice the easier it will become and you will begin to notice positive results.

Here’s how to perform chakra balancing for yourself:

It is helpful to begin this technique in a quiet setting where you can concentrate and visualize.

Begin by taking 3 nice big belly breaths. Close your eyes and imagine the energy within your body. This energy moves through your body and connects you with the earth.

Imagine you have an energy cord traveling all the way down your body. It moves like a laser beam, down your back, down through your legs and leaves your body through your feet. Your energy laser beam moves easily and effortlessly through the floor, through the foundation of your home and into the earth below.

Imagine it continuing down through the many layers of the earth. Your energy cord travels down through the soil, the sand, the clay, down through the rock and water, travelling deep, deep into the earth and spreading out in many directions like a root of a very tall tree.

Imagine just as a tall tree would gather vital nutrients for its health, your energy cord gathers vital energy necessary for your health and well-being. Imagine this energy travelling up, through the layers of the earth and foundation of your home and up through the floor.

Imagine this energy beginning to enter your feet. As it enters your feet it is a beautiful red color and brings a sense of strength, courage, and being grounded. This red energy moves up into your legs and into your reproductive area.

As your energy continues to move upward to the sacral area, that is the space below the navel, it becomes a beautiful orange color. As it moves through this area, touching all the muscles, nerves, cells, tissue and organs it brings a sense of safety, security and sturdiness.

As your energy continues to move upward to the midriff or solar plex area it becomes a bright beautiful yellow. This yellow energy moves through this area touching all organs, muscles, nerves, cells and tissue bringing a sense of contentment and happiness.

Now, notice this energy changing to an emerald green as it moves upward to your heart and lungs. This green energy connects you with healing love, self-love, as it moves through the front, back, up to your shoulders and down your arms into your hands.

This beautiful healing love energy continues to move upward and as it reaches your neck and throat, it becomes an aqua blue. Moving through this area, into your chin, mouth, nose, cheeks, sinus, and ears it brings clarity for communication. This is clarity to speak your truth from your authentic self and to really listen and possibly gain a different perspective.

As this energy moves into the eyes it becomes a beautiful violet. This violet energy moves into your forehead, top of your head, back of your head and all parts of your brain. The violet energy opens you up to all ideas, intuition, inspiration, inner knowing and inner guidance.

Allow all these energies to move to the crown of your head and imagine a golden opening. All the energies move out the crown opening and create a protective bubble around your body.  All the energies continue to move easily and effortlessly up and down and around your body.

If you have time to enjoy the quietness you have created that is perfect. Take a moment to notice how good you feel. Practice this technique daily. The more you practice the easier it will be for you to maintain energy balance.

Understanding The Emotional Baggage That Triggers Hormone Imbalances

Have you heard the expression, “Your issues are in your tissues”?

Imagine, instead of blaming NO willpower when you have trouble loosing extra pounds, could instead your excess weight be the result of an emotional hurt from a long, long time ago?

Are your physical aches and pains linked to a hormone imbalance, which was the result of carrying excess weight?

It’s the old question of what comes first…The chicken or the egg.

I wonder when you read today’s article if this will be a new concept or is it something you are already investigating when it comes to your health issues. After reading, I would love to hear your comments!

In my previous article I explained how childhood experiences and beliefs can be the direct cause of our adult emotional and/or physical pain.

I don’t believe it is a coincidence that the women I see in my office have common complaints of sleep problems, physical pain or illness, difficulty in relationships, anxiety or weight issues, just to name a few.

All of these have a common thread that leads back to “emotional baggage”; ‘baggage’ that is no longer serving them.

These old, outdated emotional hurts need to be released once and for all.

As children, we really do not have a voice when it comes to expressing our emotional pain.  So very often these feeling are boxed up tightly and stored in the subconscious mind for later reference.

And the subconscious mind has the very important job to “protect” you and to keep you safe.

For instance, if the subconscious mind believes that remaining quiet is safe, then it will do everything in its power to make sure you do exactly that!

At a very young age we are learning how to move along our path of ‘life’.  We each have our own unique experience with our very own perception of that experience.

Siblings often have completely different memories of childhood events and activities.  Our perception of these experiences or life lessons molds who and how we show up in our lives.

I believe it is a misconception or belief that we are who we are and we cannot change or direct how we handle life.

I want to let you know that you can begin to take charge of your health and your happiness, no matter what you experienced in the past.

Please do not completely leave your health and happiness in the hands of others!

I’m not suggesting you turn your back on your health care professionals, your significant other or even your caring family and friends.  No.  I am encouraging you to look with in for some of the answers only you know and can solve.

Sure, we all need the guidance of competent healthcare professionals.  We also need the support of our close family and friends to help us when we need assistance.

More importantly, we need to look within to find our own beauty and begin to treat ourselves as our very best friend.

Women are so very often guilty of giving more than we receive. 

We are the caregivers.  We take care of our family, friends, and pets and in some cases we take better care of our cars than we do of ourselves.

If you do not fit into this category, you certainly know women who do!

I’m talking from experience, ladies!  I grew up following in my mother’s footsteps.  I wanted to be the very best mom.

In fact, I grew up wanting to help others, especially children.  Funny, I remember watching my favourite show, The Flying Nun.   Sally Field played the flying nun and she was so light that the winds in the Mexican mountains could pick her up and float her to help children in a neighbouring orphanage.   I loved that show and it made a positive impact on me…or so I thought.

I remember caring and worrying about my siblings and parents at a young age.  This followed me through my own years of being a wife of a policeman and mother of four.

I anticipated the needs of those closest to me and for years took the roll or job as primary care aid of my entire family.

I lost myself in this important roll.

I did not even consider that I should or could stop and care for me.  I was doing exactly what I wanted and I was happy.  I had a great life….

Through these years I experienced very sore feet, pain in my knees, legs and hips. 

I was chief cook, bottle washer, chauffeur and peacemaker.  I was carrying excess weight that kept finding me every time I lost it!

I thought I was normal, but little did I realize that I was experiencing, ‘issues in my tissues’.  You may have heard this expression before and so had I, though much later in life.

I didn’t know that I could feel energized, healthy, fit and happy once I let go of my emotional baggage and began to live true to myself.

We all have experienced emotional hurts and limiting beliefs– it is part of being a human being.  Letting go of the baggage that is no longer serving you is truly the gateway to personal freedom!

I balanced my hormones, released emotional pain, let go of 30 pounds, and finally connected to my true authentic self where I can finally be free to be ‘me’.

I was holding excess pounds from my teen years as a ‘protection’, so to speak.  This excess weight affected my hormones, which caused a number of symptoms such as, migraines, sore breasts and even incontinence.

These headaches, pain and soreness affected how I showed up for those closest to me.

You see, it isn’t just one thing to be considered.  We need to start to look at the whole picture.  Doctors were unsuccessful in helping me solve my physical problems because I did not let go of those past issues that were the root causes.

As a hypnotherapist who has trained in Mind Body Fertility Connection, as well as  pregnancy, birth, peri-menopause and menopause issues, I now see the similarities.

We must consider our emotional well-being, as we look for solutions for our physical discomforts.  I belief it is necessary to take the mind, body and spiritual approach for true healing.

You may suddenly realize that you are reacting to a 50 year old experience with the pain of a 5 year old.

Maybe you are ready to finally be free to live a happier, healthier and more vibrant life. Clearing old unresolved issues does not have to take years and years of counselling.

When you are finally ready to take charge of your emotional and physical well-being, the release will be quick and transformational.

I am not suggesting that one session with a hypnotherapist will be the answer to all your problems.

You have held onto your emotional baggage for a very long time and with patience and guidance you can go deep and finally let it all release.  It is important to be patient and kind to yourself as you move through these life changing processes.

Understanding The Root Cause of Physical Dis-ease or Weight Loss Failures and How Emotional Freedom Will Permanently Overcome Those Challenges

Did you know your childhood emotional baggage could very well be the root cause of your physical pain or emotional dis-ease that you’re experiencing today?

One indicator might be that you are frustrated with not achieving lasting results to your anxiety, depression or weight issues… which is just one of the many symptoms I see in my clients upon their first visit.

Perhaps your food cravings rule your world?

Or you are unable to enjoy fulfilling and lasting relationships?

Sadly, I find most, if not all of my clients who share these types of struggles suffer silently from emotional hurts, childhood abuse and/or trauma they experienced as a very young child.

Their difficult, emotional experiences have been held in check or shoved down deep where often they have been consciously forgotten.  Consciously forgotten, yet the subconscious mind, the grand storage computer of your mind, never forgets.

The subconscious knows everything about you from the day of conception.  

The subconscious has a very important job.  This is a job of ‘protection’.  It will protect you from similar hurts you have experienced in the past.  That’s its function and it does a superior job of it!

So unless you are able to release these hurts at the deepest level, the subconscious level, you will never be free.

The good news is, once those emotional hurts or traumas have been let go of, new information can be suggested and received by the subconscious mind to encourage and create new patterns so you can finally begin to live the life you dream of.

As an example, we all have friends or relatives or perhaps yourself who struggles with weight loss.  No matter how hard you work at releasing the excess pounds you have little or no long-term success.

This is simply because you are looking at the problem with a sort of tunnel vision. Logically thinking that obviously, less food and more physical movement will bring success… but that’s all WRONG!!  There is so much more to consider when we take a step back outside of that tunnel.

Weight gain and loss is a rather complex issue. 

Most of us can agree there seems to be a missing link to weight loss.  If it was so easy, why do we struggle, why is weight loss a billion dollar industry?

What I have noticed over many years as a recovered person with excess weight frustration and now working with clients struggling with weight issues is in order to release the weight, we need to release the #1 big stressors!

But how can you do this in a world of fast paced everything?  You might consider moving to a remote Caribbean Island…umm…no, 99.5% of those deep hurts will follow you!!

So, how, you may wonder, can you find peace? 

How can you find freedom from those old issues that you have been carrying around for so very long?

How can you possible find freedom from physical pain, discomfort, anxiety, or depression…?

I have come to realize we are a symphony of mind, body and spirit and it is necessary that all these parts of us work together to create beautiful harmony.

Here are three things you can work on to attain emotional freedom and enjoy beautiful harmony in your life:

FIRST

The tone and rhythm is a vital part of any orchestra.  When it comes to our well-being, our ability to enjoy the beautiful ‘flow’ of life is crucial.  When we no longer carry heavy emotional baggage we are able to move through life with ease, we are able to avoid the extreme highs and lows of emotional dis-ease or distress.

When we are free of emotional distress we can create the life we truly dream of and we understand that we are worthy of this beautiful life.

A very effective way to accomplish this is through hypnosis. Hypnosis is a form of trance or, if you will, a meditation where you can release your emotional baggage that has been standing in your way of personal freedom.

Hypnosis is a positive solution to allow freedom from weight issues, addictions, anxiety, and depression and in many cases, physical and emotional discomforts and dis-ease.

SECONDLY

Of course, we must care for and nourish our bodies well, similar to caring for an instrument in the orchestra.  I believe we should choose the best foods and beverages that we can afford.

I choose GOD made foods as much as possible.  Sleep is just as important as nourishing your body and exercising.  Adults required about 8 hours of sleep each night.  How much needed sleep are you getting?

Finally, good communication with your medical professional is also important for longevity.

THIRDLY

I believe to reach beautiful harmony; we must realize we are but a small part of the whole symphony.  We all have a very important role in life and our world, yet alone we lack the true range of tones, energy and rhythm.

The harmony is our spiritual side, our connection not only to all parts of ourselves, also connection to our community, our friends and family as well and realizing we have an opportunity to tap into an even greater force and energy, God, if you will, that you can lean on and ask to help you in times of difficulty.

So there you have it – these three action items will get you where you want to be in life: clearing out the old emotional traumas of your past, start better healthy eating habits, and make a spiritual connection with the world you live in.

Growing a Garden of Harmony in YOUR LIFE

As I tend to my garden this morning it seems very clear how all growth, whether it be plant or human, is much the same. I find this all quite fascinating as I reflect on the similarities.

Planting new seeds and seedlings, I care and nurture these precious new sprouts as I would a baby. It dawns on me that I also tend to take time to feed my new ideas and inspirations. I love growth and for me it is a big part of my life. I’m always growing, becoming more.

I believe this is part of a healthy and happy existence. 

What happens when we become stagnant and stale? 
What happens when we stop growing?
What happens when we fail to tend to our relationships and all that has meaning to us? 

Just as our gardens will wither and wilt, so will our ideas, inspirations and relationships.

I must continuously weed my garden to make room for growth and expansion of the plants and foliage which I have chosen to enjoy.  Weeds are not necessarily a bad thing; they are simply not what I choose to nurture. 

It is just as vital for my own personal growth to weed out unwanted emotions and limiting beliefs that are no longer serving me.

Do you find that sometimes you feel stuck? 
Do you need to begin to take care of yourself?
Are you having a hard time letting go of old pains or old ideas of who you should be? 
Is it time to weed your emotional garden to make room for new ideas and growth? 
Is it time to really take charge and live your life purposefully? 

What do you want to experience in your life? When is a good time to begin to live the life you want? Are you waiting until life settles down, are you waiting for tomorrow, or next month, or next year? 

What is stopping your from living the life you want to live right now? How can you begin to plant new seeds and weed out the old, outdated ones?

Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

You have heard this before, but really think about it. Yesterday is gone, done and over. All the yesterdays are gone, done and over. Today really is the beginning.

A friend sent me this quote this morning and I would like to share it with you as you may be beginning to consider today as a new beginning:

If you want to live the life you came here to live, FEEL into it.
Turn off the past. The lessons you learned there are over.
Clear that canvas and paint that which you want to see now.

I invite you to dig out your journal and write down on a fresh new page some of the things you would  like to experience in your life. 

What do you really want? 

How can you begin to plant new seeds to create the life you truly desire? What do you need to weed out to make room for new happier experience?

Think of these things as beautiful flowering plants.

How To Let Go Of Stress

Stress has a huge effect on us physically and emotionally.  Learning how to let go of your stress is a powerful step to self-care.

It is well documented that stress can cause physical problems.  You may know someone whose neck or back hurts when they are stressed.  Many people hold stress in their necks and shoulders, they tense up and do not even realize it until the pain or discomfort begins.

This is common; some people get headaches, some get tired and irritable, while others turn to addictions such as drugs, alcohol or food.

We all have our own ways to deal with our stress.  Some people think they have more stress than others and maybe they do, yet there are those other people who keep going and seem to handle stress in their stride.

What are they doing differently?  How do they deal with their stress?

The people who consciously learn how to relax have an easier time with stress.

There are things we can do that can make a huge difference on how we deal with our busy and stressful lives.  Here are four main areas to be aware of:

  1. Breathe. Learning how to breathe is a good starting point.
  2. Be Present. Practicing the art of being present is another powerful technique that is vital to maintaining a clear and calm demeanour.
  3. Get Active. Adding physical movement into your daily routine is very important
  4. Eat Well. Nourishing your body with good wholesome foods goes a long way to alleviating stress.

Most of us realize that the above points are important and some of us make a point of including each in our day to day lives.

Did you know that old emotional hurts can also be causing you pain, discomfort and illness? 

Things that happened years ago can be stopping you today from living a happy and healthy life.

As a hypnotherapist I see this in my clients every single day.  We all carry emotional baggage.  Old issues that we have not completely processed often are the underlying cause of our dis-‘ease’, which can manifest in our physical bodies.

There is a mind-body connection to healing and balance.  When we let go of old emotional hurts and limiting beliefs we can prepare the mind to work with the body to create balance.

When helping women to balance hormones I find taking the mind-body approach is very beneficial.  By letting go of the unwanted emotions, the mind and the body can work in unison to bring hormone balance and healing.

Women are inherent caregivers and will often give and give until they cannot give anymore.  It is important for all women to recognize that we must take care of ourselves to be able to give to others.

Self-care includes addressing the emotional baggage.

Hypnosis is a powerful technique to release unwanted emotions and limiting beliefs that are no longer serving us.

Bruce Lipton explains this mind-body connection very well in his book, “The Biology of Belief”.  We have great capabilities within our own minds and bodies to bring balance and help in the healing processes.

We all have heard of people who have recovered when all odds were not in their favour.  They believed and had faith in their own recovery.   Hypnosis is a very effective way to give positive suggestions for balance and healing.

The Importance of D.O.D: Desire, Optimism & Dream

I am so surprised it is the beginning of another month!  Where has the time gone?  Seems like we were just putting away the Christmas decorations!!

I had a weekend of reflecting of the past few months and I realize I’ve been focusing on day-to-day work, family and ‘my life’ stuff.

But I have not really thought much beyond the short term ‘stuff’.

It is obvious to me that if I continue in the same pattern, it will be yet another New Year before I know it!

That is OK, yet there are lots of things I want to do and experience.  I know what will happen if I don’t schedule them in or give these ideas some serious thought… they simply won’t happen.

So, today I will take out my calendar and pencil in some of those activities and things I want to experience this year.

What about you?  Are there things you would like to do?  Have you set some plans in motion, penciled in dates on your calendar?  Do you have some activities or even personal goals you would like to include this year?

As I sat down with my pen and paper to put down my ideas of the things I want to do and experiences I wish to create, I came up with this acronym.

D.O.D.

D – Desire:

What do you want to do or create this year?  What do you truly desire?  Take 5-10 minutes to quietly ponder the possibilities.

Simply allow yourself to open up to your hearts deepest desires. Maybe you want to travel, take a course, or move to a new location.  Think of it as a game. 

Wouldn’t it be cool to… lose weight, become stronger, join a yoga class, or participate in a marathon?  Wouldn’t it be fun to shop for new clothes, to climb a pyramid, or go sailing?

I like to use self-hypnosis to get into that deep relaxed state where my conscious analytic mind is quiet and I can listen to my inner voice.  I believe it is a good idea to consider desires in many categories of our lives.

For example, we may want to brainstorm ideas around our wealth and prosperity, yet we don’t want to ignore our relationships or health.

Taking time to consider all aspects of our life and what we desire in each area is a positive step in creating balance and happiness in our lives.

If we focus only in one area, career and money for example, we may miss opportunities to grow and flourish in our relationships.  Both are important to our happiness.

O – Optimism:

When an idea comes to you, allow yourself to expand on it in a positive way.

Sometimes we squash our ideas before we even allow our minds to completely formulate the complete idea.  Do you do that sometimes?

Maybe you came up with the idea you would like to participate in long distance bike ride.  You don’t even own a bike, so you immediately dismiss the idea.  Stop.  Allow yourself to have some fun with the thought.

What would it feel like to go on a long distance bike ride?  Who would you go with? What would you see?  What would you have to do before hand to make this happen and is it something that would you would enjoy?  Does this idea stir up some excitement for you?  If it does, allow yourself to begin to…

D – Dream:

When you acknowledge a desire, whether it is a desire to travel, learn something new, change a habit or create something, and then you add a splash of optimism… you get a DREAM.

Continue to allow that idea or thought to grow and intensify; allow your mind to expand on this desire.

This is how DREAMS begin.

I consider myself an expert DREAMER!  LOL!  I am experienced and have created a lot of cool things in my life, through DREAMING.

Use the D.O.D. to get started; allow your mind to drift and play with ideas.  All DREAMS begin with an idea.

Years ago, when I was first married we had many dreams of travel and adventure.  One of those dreams was to live on a sailboat and sail the ocean blue.

A  crazy idea for a young couple!  How could we possibly make this dream come true?

We found it fun to dream of the ‘what ifs’…

Many people would consider these thoughts as impossible possibilities.  We played with this thought… this idea.  When we travelled we noticed the sailboats, we imagined where we would go and what we would see.

Did you know, your imagination is a very important tool that we often do not use?

As children we are encouraged to use with our imagination and we are encouraged to play pretend.  Once we enter school life gets serious and often imagination and daydreams are not welcome.

School is a time for hard work and focus, not pretend.  This is when many of us begin to get the idea that life is hard work and dreams are for children. I do not believe this.

Back to sailing… life progressed and our dreams continued in the back of our minds until we found ourselves living in Costa Rica taking tourists out for day trips!

A few years later, we were pinching ourselves as we sailed from island to island in the Caribbean on our new home… a 42 foot Catamaran sailboat.

So, yes, I do believe DREAMS can come true when we take D.O.D. seriously.
